What to pack
Pick your tour and see its list, by layer and by category. Your ticks are the same as in the window on the tour page and stay saved in your browser, so they are there whenever you come back before you leave.
Everest Base Camp
My list for the trek to base camp via Gokyo and the Cho La pass. The idea is to dress in layers that you put on and take off along the way, not to carry one very heavy coat.

Base layer
Keeps you dry and protects you from hypothermia. Merino wool and synthetic fibres (polyester, polypropylene) work best.
Mid layer
Holds your body heat in the mornings, evenings and breaks.
Outer layer
Waterproof and breathable: it keeps out wind and rain.
Trousers
Footwear
For the cold
Packs, sleep and the trail
Sun, hygiene and health
Optional
Nothing missing here. Have a good trip!
Tips
- Wear your boots on hikes for at least a few weeks before you leave; new boots cause blisters.
- We wash socks and T-shirts on the way, wherever we arrive in daylight, so your bag can stay small.
- No cotton: once it is wet with sweat, it stays wet and cold.
EBC + Island Peak
Everything on the Everest Base Camp list, plus the technical gear and the clothes for summit day. Technical gear you don't have can be rented in Kathmandu or Dingboche.

Technical gear for Island Peak
For the glacier and the fixed-rope snow slope below the summit. The guide checks everything with you at base camp, where we also have the technical lesson. The local team fixes the rope.
For summit day
We leave at around 1 am, and up there it is the coldest and windiest part of the whole tour.

Kilimanjaro and Kilimanjaro + Safari share this list and its ticks.
On Kilimanjaro you pass through four climate zones in a few days, from the rainforest to the ice on the summit. What matters is layers you put on and take off along the way, not one very heavy coat. On the Marangu route you sleep in huts, in beds with mattresses, so you don't need a sleeping mat.

Tips
- The guides check your gear the evening before the climb, at the hotel in Moshi. Anything missing can be rented there: sleeping bag, down jacket, poles, gaiters.
- Whatever you don't need on the mountain stays at the hotel in Moshi until you come down.
- Break in your boots for at least two weeks before you leave, and pack a full set of dry clothes in a waterproof bag for summit day.
- No cotton: once it is wet with sweat, it stays wet and cold.
